Key Stage 4

Why should I study this course?

History, as a subject, provides us with the ability to understand both past events and the present. It teaches us to ask two very important questions about the world around us: why and how. These questions are key to sharpening your critical thinking abilities, which combine knowledge, analysis, research, essay writing and communication skills. As a whole, these enable you to solve problems and form arguments for debate, using both fact and opinion based upon evidence.

The skills provided through GCSE History are desired by many careers. Some of these include: law, politics, public sector careers such as policing, business, marketing, journalism, economic/financial, teaching, academia, healthcare, research (social and various others), archaeology and curation (museums, galleries, archives and libraries).

GCSE History will be valuable in helping you understand the ever-changing world in which we live, through applying the knowledge of the past to the present. Governments, businesses and individuals can learn from past mistakes and errors to prevent them from occurring again. Successes in our history can be celebrated and referred back to, to help unite the world around us. Both the successes and failures in our history can be used to make informed choices about the future.

Additional Support
