All students in Year 7 will have a 9-week block of Product Design in the workshop, where they will design and make a product from wood, metal or plastic. In Year 8 they will have a second 9-week block of Product Design, again in the workshop, where they will complete another design and make a product from wood, metal or plastic, building on the knowledge and skills they acquired in Year 7.
The design and make activity will take the students through the following stages of the Design Process:
• Researching the design context
• Producing conceptual ideas
• Developing a solution
• Planning the manufacture
• Making the product
• Evaluating the effectiveness of the final outcome
Feedback
In Years 7 and 8, students are given formative feedback on their work during the lesson, through live marking, with a summative assessment of the design and make task at the end of the 9-week block.
Additional support
Students in Year 7 and Year 8 can access the KS3 Learning Club to receive support with their homework
