Sixth Form Life Saving Session

Sixth Form students took part in a vital Personal Development session delivered by experts from the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. The workshop focused on essential life-saving skills, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations.

The session began with training in CPR, where students learned how to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain circulation and breathing in a person experiencing cardiac arrest. The importance of calling 999 promptly was emphasised, with guidance on how to communicate efficiently with emergency services.

Students were also taught how to manage severe bleeds, including techniques for applying pressure and using bandages to control bleeding until professional help arrives. The session highlighted the significance of remaining calm and focused during such critical moments.

A particularly valuable part of the workshop was the hands-on training with defibrillators. Students practised using Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), understanding how to apply the device correctly and follow its prompts to deliver potentially life-saving shocks to individuals in cardiac arrest.

This comprehensive session has provided our students with crucial emergency response skills, fostering a sense of preparedness and responsibility in potentially life-threatening situations. We extend our thanks to the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust for delivering this impactful training.
