Year 12 Sixth Form students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in university life during a special experience day at the University of Marjon. This event aimed to give students a glimpse into higher education, helping them envision their future academic paths.
The day began with a comprehensive campus tour, where the students explored the university's facilities and halls of residence. Guided by current Marjon students, the tour highlighted the vibrant campus life and showcased resources such as the library, sports centre, and various study spaces, providing a thorough understanding of what university living entails.
Following the tour, the students attended an informative session on student life and budgeting. This talk, led by university staff, covered essential topics such as managing finances, balancing study and social life, and making the most out of the university experience. It aimed to equip the students with practical knowledge and insights to prepare them for the financial responsibilities of university life.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the criminology taster session. Engaging in a hands-on, interactive activity, the students were challenged to solve a crime case. They analysed evidence, discussed theories, and ultimately worked together to identify the murderer. This session not only introduced them to the field of criminology but also developed their critical thinking and teamwork skills as well as showing them what it could be like to be a university student for a session.
Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed newfound excitement about the prospect of attending university, with many opening their options a bit further than they were originally thinking.
We look forward to supporting this group with their university application process starting in July 2024.
